Chip Seal Paving Services
Chip Sealing uses the same ingredients as Hot Mix Asphalt, but the construction method is different. With Chip Seals, a thin film of heated asphalt liquid is sprayed on the road surface, followed by the placement of small aggregates (“Chip”). The chips are then compacted to orient the chips for maximum adherence to the road surface. When building a new road, we recommend two to three layers of chip rock be placed over a sound base. When resurfacing an existing road or parking lot, typically a single layer is all that is required, depending on the existing asphalt surface.
Chip Seals average one-fourth to one-fifth of the cost of conventional asphalt overlay.
Chip Seal paving costs are usually under a dollar a square foot, but the amount of prep work and the volatility of the cost of oil will impact the final price. A deposit is required with each order.
All roads will deteriorate if water is not drained from the surface with the proper slope or crown and ditching to drain the water away. Standing water will cause softening of the road surface and lead to cracking and potholes so proper drainage is critical to the structural integrity of the road.
